As a Teesside basketball club that has built community work into the heart of what we do, from supporting local food banks to backing local charities. It fills us with pride to have been named Community Club of the Year at the Basketball England North East Awards 2025.
On the same night, Tom Robinson, the club’s head coach and lead, was also named the region’s Children’s Coach of the Year.

Cleveland Basketball Club offers basketball to the whole community, with players ranging from children as young as five right through to adults. It runs sessions and teams across Teesside at Eston Leisure Centre, Skelton Community Centre and Redcar College, and has used its position to give back, donating to food banks and helping promote local charities.

The Community Club of the Year award recognises that breadth and that commitment.
Head coach and club lead Tom Robinson, who drives the club’s programmes, was also recognised individually as the North East’s Children’s Coach of the Year for his work developing young players.

The club now offers a full competitive local pathway for its members, with its junior teams competing in the DCBA local league at Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 level.
Whilst boasting men’s teams play across Divisions 1, 2 and 3 of the same local league.
In terms of elite level play, the club’s adults’ National League team competes as the Cleveland Steelers, with home games at Eston Leisure Centre.

Further strengthening their offering. This year Cleveland Basketball Club is forming a new Under-16 National League programme, giving talented young players from Teesside a route from their first session as a child all the way to national competition.

The Basketball England North East Awards recognise the clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers driving the sport across the region. Cleveland Basketball Club was previously known as East Cleveland Basketball Club, the name under which Basketball England recognised the award and now operates as Cleveland Basketball Club as it grows across Teesside.
